Yates Street Community Garden
Zero Waste Emporium Inc. supports the Yates Street Community Garden because it recognizes the critical role community gardens play in enhancing food security. By providing a space for individuals to grow fresh, healthy produce, the garden helps combat food deserts and ensures that local residents have access to nutritious food options. This initiative not only promotes sustainable practices and reduces waste but also fosters a sense of community and collaboration. Supporting the garden aligns with our values of encouraging responsible consumption and environmental stewardship, empowering community members to take control of their food sources, and creating a more resilient local food system.
Who is the Yates Street Community Garden?
At the Yates Street Community Garden, our mission is to transform an empty lot into Downtown Victoria's first community garden, enhancing access to garden plots while fostering local food production awareness. Initiated in 2016 by dedicated residents and supported by the Victoria Downtown Residents Association and local partners, our garden has become a sanctuary for community engagement and collaboration. Today, we proudly manage 75 individually allocated boxes alongside community and non-profit beds, with a growing waitlist reflecting the demand for this vibrant space. As we continue to nurture urban agriculture and inspire community-driven projects, we invite you to join us in our mission—whether through volunteering or supporting our efforts to cultivate a thriving urban garden for all.
